Blue Ivy Youngest Person Ever To Appear On A Billboard Chart

Klaudia//January 12, 2012
If you guessed that Baby Carter would grow up to be a star because of her ubiquitous, famous parents, you were probably right. If you anticipated her first song being released in her tweens, a la Willow Smith, you were dead wrong. Try within hours of her birth. Blue Ivy Carter, the bundle of joy brought into the world by megastar Beyoncé (with a little help from fellow famous dad Jay-Z) Saturday (Jan. 7), becomes the youngest person ever credited with gracing a Billboard chart, as Jay-Z's newly-recorded studio cut "Glory" -- officially billed as "featuring B.I.C.," an abbreviation of Blue Ivy Carter -- begins on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at No. 74. (For historical purposes, this week's Billboard charts are dated Jan. 21). Taking a page out of Stevie Wonder's proverbial book on how to be a sentimental musical dad, Jay-Z recorded his precious girl's first seconds of life -- her breathing, cries and coos -- just as Wonder did on his iconic song "Isn't She Lovely," written for his then-newborn daughter Aisha. Why does B.I.C. claim the mark for youngest charted artist and not Wonder's girl? Two reasons: young Aisha was never officially credited on "Lovely" and the song did not reach a Billboard chart until Jan. 29, 1977 (when it entered Adult Contemporary at its No. 23 peak), almost two years after she was born. Blue Ivy Carter/B.I.C. also benefits from the era in which she born. Technology today allows an advantage in that Jay-Z was able to record and release "Glory" less than 48 after her birth. After almost 72 years of numbers, positions, peaks, lows, gains and debuts -- the first national Billboard chart was published the week of July 27, 1940 -- the little princess born to the reigning king and queen of R&B/hip-hop breaks the mold almost concurrently with her arrival into Beyonce's anticipating, loving arms. "Glory" arrives as the week's highest new entry on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with 1.7 million audience impressions on 54 radio stations, according to Nielsen BDS. In a stroke of chart kismet, the song marks Jay-Z's 107th career entry on the survey, mirroring the Jan. 7 birth date - in other words (or, um, numbers), 1/07 - of Blue Ivy.

Beyonce sees bump in sales following baby reveal

Klaudia//August 31, 2011
Beyonce's revelation — both on the red carpet and during her performance — that she and her husband, Jay-Z, are expecting their first child undoubtedly stole the show at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. The big warm-and-fuzzy moment also has provided the diva with a major bump, pun intended, on record sales. After telling the audience that she wanted them "to feel the love that's growing inside," she dived into "Love on Top," a cut from her album "4." The performance boosted the non-single into the iTunes top 5, while her actual single, "Best Thing I Never Had," is currently languishing at No. 23. The album has also made its way back into the top 10 on iTunes, coincidentally landing at the No. 4 spot. Despite being herald by critics, the disc has struggled a bit commercially. The album's first two singles, "Best Thing I Never Had" and "Run the World (Girls)," have failed to take off like "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," "Irreplaceable," "Crazy in Love" and other huge hits. The album has so far logged fewer than 700,000 units, according to Nielsen Soundscan, since its June release — a sluggish number when compared to the record-breaking tallies that Adele and Lady Gaga have enjoyed with their recent releases.

Twitter sets record with the news of Beyonce's pregnancy

Klaudia//August 30, 2011
Earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes (and the odd World Cup soccer match) may be newsworthy subjects to post about on microblogging platform Twitter, but it was the news of pop singer Beyonce’s pregnancy that set a new Tweets Per Second (TPS) record. “Last night at 10:35pm ET, Beyonce's big MTV #VMA moment gave Twitter a record bump: 8,868 Tweets per second,” announced Twitter via its @twitterglobalpr account. Beyonce arrived on the red carpet at MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday, August 28, and revealed to the world that she and her husband Jay-Z are expecting their first baby. Twitter went crazy with Beyonce-themed posts as the singer showed off her growing baby bump. Twitter’s previous TPS record was reached in July 2011 during the Woman’s World Cup. During the Japan-USA and the Paraguay-Brazil matches, Twitterers sent terms such as the #WWC and #worldcupfinal hashtags and players' names to the top of Twitter's most talked about topics list, setting a record of 7,196 TPS. Prior to that, the volume of tweets spiked at more than 5,000 TPS in the moments after Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

Beyonce & Jay-Z Atop Forbes’ Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples List

Klaudia//August 20, 2011
Since Jay-Z was recently named the Hip-Hop Cash King, it’s only right that his queen Beyoncé gets some props for her money-making skills as well. Forbes magazine has crowned both Bey-Bey and Hov as music’s highest-paid couple, and the second overall highest-paid celebrity couple in the world. The R&B/hip-hop duo raked in $72 million between May 2010 and May 2011, with Beyoncé netting $35 million thanks to her Deréon apparel line and her endorsement deals with DirectTV, General Mills, L’Oreal and others. Meanwhile, Jigga’s earnings mostly came from his 10-year $150 million Live Nation deal, his 40/40 restaurant chain and his partial ownerships of the New Jersey Nets basketball team and ad firm Translation. Beyoncé earned a few more coins this week alone, as she finished out her residency of ’4 Intimate Nights With Beyonce’ concerts on Friday (Aug. 19) at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. It was a star-studded affair, as A-List celebs like Usher, Kelly Rowland, Lady Gaga, Maxwell, Jennifer Hudson as well as her proud husband, Jay-Z, were in attendance to see the R&B diva rock the Big Apple on the closing night.

Beyonce Knowles' Top-Selling Scent

Klaudia//August 16, 2011
Beyonce Knowles' fragrance Heat is the top selling celebrity perfume in the UK. The 29-year-old singer's debut scent - which is described as a mixture of floral, fruity and woody with tones of milkwood and tonka bean - beat Coleen Rooney's Butterflies to be named the best seller at The Fragrance Shop. Homme by soccer star David Beckham was third in the list, while his Intimately Yours fragrance was fifth, sandwiching Mariah Carey's Lollipop Bling which came in fourth. David's wife Victoria Beckham came in tenth in the poll, with her perfume Signature. The Fragrance Shop boss Sanjay Vadera said: "Celebrity fragrances remain top of the wish list." Beyonce - who is married to hip hop mogul Jay-Z - recently released her second scent Heat Rush, and she revealed she would not leave her house without wearing perfume because it is the "cherry on top of the cake". She said: "I feel like fragrance is one of the most important accessories a woman can have - it's sexy, it says something, and it's that final touch, like putting on a gorgeous pair of stilettos. "One of the things I remember from being a little girl is how I loved watching my mother getting ready to go out and she'd spray on her perfume. "It was this gorgeous blast that would linger in the room after she'd gone and it would remind me of her. I thought it was so sophisticated and glamorous, so feminine and sexy. To me, even if you are dressed to kill and everything is looking fabulous, you are still not done without that touch of fragrance. It's the cherry on top of the cake."
