Bey Inspired: Hannah

Klaudia//July 28, 2013

This is my girl Hannah!

I met Hannah when she was seven years old. Her unbelievable strength and positive energy instantly drew me in. Hannah has osteogenesis imperfecta, which is more commonly known as brittle bones. Although she faces many challenges every day, her spirit cannot be broken.

Now at 13, she is still a fighter, determined to enjoy life. She loves music, people, and dancing, and boy does she have moves!

She is a true inspiration!

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Step Out in Support of Trayvon Martin

Klaudia//July 21, 2013
On Saturday, Beyoncé and Jay-Z attended a rally for Trayvon Martin in NYC, meeting up with the shooting victim's parents and showing their support for the family. The couple kept a low profile at the event, which Al Sharpton addressed when he spoke, saying, "Jay-Z and Beyoncé said they didn't want to speak, and they didn't come for a photo op." He did reference the couple's stance, though, adding, "Jay-Z told me, 'I'm a father. Beyoncé is a mother.' We all feel the pain and apprehension — the laws must protect everybody, or it doesn't protect anybody."

During the rally, Beyoncé posted a picture of bracelets in support of Martin with the caption "#actnow4Trayvon" and later took to her website to share a photo of her and Jay-Z with Martin's family. Her appearance at the rally isn't the first time the star spoke out on Martin's behalf, though — on Saturday, hours after the verdict was announced, Beyoncé held a moment of silence for Martin at her concert in Nashville, following it up with the chorus from "I Will Always Love You."

August 28, 1955 - Emmett Till, 14, Money, Mississippi
February 26, 2012 - Trayvon Martin, 17, Sanford, Florida

We are still struggling with the issue of inequality and the lack of value for a black man’s life. Trayvon Martin’s most basic civil right, the right to live, was violated.

We have made so much progress and cannot allow hatred and racism to divide us. When we all join together, people of all races, we have the power to change the world we live in.

We must fight for Trayvon the same way the generation before us fought for Emmett Till.

I joined over 570,000 people in signing the petition below and hopefully you will, too.

Some of the most powerful touring artists in the world -- including Pearl Jam, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Kanye West, Jay-Z and many more -- will unite behind the Global Poverty Project (GPP) through the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, a new program launched today which is designed to incentive social activism with concert tickets.

Music fans can register at Globalcitizen.org/tickets today, where they can take a variety of social actions, ranging from signing petitions to calling their representatives, to earn points they can use to win free tickets to concerts (with a minimum of two tickets per show to be offered). The effort will engage thousands to take action and shine a spotlight on issues related to extreme poverty, including polio, malaria, women's empowerment, education, and more. Global Citizen is an innovative online platform and mobile application, and its simplicity makes such a broad program feasible.

Beyonce partners with Goodwill to Transform Lives

Klaudia//April 15, 2013
Goodwill Industries International is pleased to announce that Beyonce Knowles-Carter will lend her voice to help raise awareness about Goodwill's mission of transforming lives through the power of work. The announcement comes just as Beyonce gets ready to kick off The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour today in Serbia.

"Goodwill helps people get back to work by providing education, job training and placement. I wanted to team up with an organization that puts people first and works every day to help them improve and re-establish their lives," said Beyonce.

Beyonce will encourage fans to support Goodwill by promoting donation drives at her North American concerts beginning on Friday, June 28, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Goodwill will host a mobile donation center onsite at 28 tour venues in 24 North American cities, collecting clothing, electronics and small household goods. The revenue from the sale of these donations will directly benefit local Goodwill agencies in their work to help people with disabilities and disadvantages, and anyone facing challenges to finding employment.

Beyonce will also help build awareness of Goodwill's mission through in-concert education, social media and online ticket auctions. Global charity auction site Charitybuzz.com will auction special ticket packages for The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, with the revenue benefitting Goodwill.

Tina Knowles Enlists Beyonce's Help For 'Miss A Meal'

Klaudia//April 12, 2013
More than 50 million Americans go hungry every day. With those despairing statistics, fashion designer Tina Knowles and daughters Beyonce and Solange joined forces with Bread of Life, Inc. to make a difference. The Houston-based non-profit organization founded by Rudy and Juanita Rasmus aims to fight for the needs of the less fortunate with the fundraising campaign Miss A Meal.

"When we say 'we are starving,' we have to remember that there are people who are literally starving. If everyone fed one person, one meal, we could make a huge difference," says Tina Knowles . "To miss one meal is a small sacrifice to make in the fight against hunger."

According to a recent study, Harris County families struggling to keep food on the table have a food budget shortfall of $12.97 per week, per person. To fill the meal gap, $277 million is needed annually to ensure that every person has three meals a day. The Miss A Meal initiative is designed to meet the needs of the hungry by encouraging people to miss a meal and pass the plate by donating the money they would have spent. The donation is then used to feed those who are less fortunate.

"I was 13 and my sister Solange was 8 when we started donating and serving meals to the homeless after church," says Beyonce. "There were people from all walks of life, even children, who needed a meal. We learned that we are all three paychecks away from poverty. It was a lesson in humility for all of us." Solange adds, "There are dozens of memories of me and my sister volunteering at Bread of Life, we got to see firsthand how grateful people were to receive a hot meal. For many people this was their only meal of the day and we learned early on not to take anything for granted. I'm passing on those same lessons to my son Julez."

What started as an idea sparked by indie recording artist Cy Jackson 's song "Heartbeat" has blossomed into a growing movement against hunger. Miss A Meal encourages people to donate as little as one dollar, which in turn can provide one well-balanced meal through Bread of Life.
