Flannels launches new 'Renaissance' pop-up for release of Beyoncé's concert film

Klaudia//December 2, 2023
Flannels has once again partnered with Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment for a special pop-up with official apparel and exclusive installations to celebrate the release of the singer’s new ‘Renaissance’ film.

It follows a debut earlier this year which saw the retailer’s Oxford Street flagship, Flannels X, transform into a viral shopping and discovery experience in line with the five-night London residency of Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance World Tour’ in May 2023.

The retailer now returns with an amplified iteration of the shopping concept that drove around-the-block queues the first time around, with the highly-anticipated release of ‘Renaissance: A film by Beyoncé’ once again about to drive a concert-inspired fashion craze among fans.

The new ‘Renaissance’ pop-up lands in Flannels stores in London, Liverpool and Sheffield today, 1 December – when the film goes on general release – before arriving in Belfast on 14 December.

The concept is inspired by Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ fashion extravaganza, and is a nod to the “disco cowgirls and alien superstars” who united in their droves across 39 cities and 56 shows to take part in “the year’s biggest party”.

Now, in line with its own festive creative concept ‘We Are The Party’, the selected four Flannels flagship stores will become a one-stop destination for fans to immerse themselves once again in the Renaissance spirit.

"Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé" Premiere in Los Angeles

Klaudia//November 26, 2023
Beyoncé brought Renaissance to the big screen on Saturday night, premiering her new concert film at a star-studded event in Beverly Hills.

The premiere, which took place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater and included a dress code of “cozy opulence”, featured a chrome carpet followed by a screening of the movie. Guests were invited to take photos on the glitzy step-and-repeat — which featured Renaissance film artwork — and participate in several other photos ops, including posing with Beyoncé’s signature silver horse.

Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, along with Janelle Monáe, Issa Rae, Lizzo, Halle and Chloe Bailey, Lupita Nyong’o, Tyler Perry, Niecy Nash-Betts, Gabrielle Union, Ava DuVernay, Lena Waithe, Kris Jenner, Robin Thede, Jeremy Pope, Laverne Cox, Marsai Martin, Coco Jones, Beyoncé dancers Les Twins and her parents, Tina and Mathew Knowles, were among the stars who walked the carpet. Following arrivals, attendees were brought inside the theater, where phones were locked up.

Beyoncé herself did not formally walk the carpet, but snuck in and out of the screening with her family once the lights went out. Inside the event, the starry group of guests mingled before the movie started, but once it began, stayed in their seats and left the dancing for the screen. Attendees were also given Renaissance-branded popcorn tins and soda cups, as well as a sample of the star’s new perfume.

Beyoncé and Other Iconic Women Take Their Place at the Smithsonian

Klaudia//November 21, 2023
She is already known to her millions of fans as “Queen Bey.” So, it’s fitting that, in her likeness that now hangs at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter wears a golden crown that seems to emanate from her forehead.

The glossy 3.5-foot-high portrait from a 2018 Vogue cover story—the singer’s fourth—is historic: It was the first cover shoot in the magazine’s 126-year history to be done by a Black photographer. The artist, Tyler Mitchell, was just 23 when he shot the image titled See Your Halo.

It will likely be one of the most popular, and certainly one of the most recognizable, images in a recently opened showcase of newly acquired works at the National Portrait Gallery, alongside the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who can be seen in a stately 2020 cast made from the 2013 original by Meredith Bergmann, sculptor of the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument in New York’s Central Park.

When the Portrait Gallery opened more than a half-century ago, just 17 percent of its collection represented women—either as subjects or creators. That number has roughly doubled since then, museum officials say. The new exhibition, “Recent Acquisitions,” does its best to elevate those numbers by concentrating on women subjects and artists.

The 21 recently acquired works in a variety of media, alongside two commissions, showcase what Rhea L. Combs, the museum’s director of curatorial affairs, calls the “diverse contributions by women represented in our collection as artists or as sitters from across disciplines and time periods, as well as the museum’s commitment to telling those wide-ranging stories.”

Beyoncé's Concert Film Could Top A Tom Cruise Box Office Record

Klaudia//November 21, 2023
Beyoncé's much-anticipated concert film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, was always going to be huge, from the moment it was first announced this fall. Now, early projections show just how big it may be when it finally hits theaters early next month, enough to help it make history.

Projections for its starting sum have it opening with $20 million as it hits theaters on December 1, according to Deadline.

The movie demonstrated its potential success at the box office when tickets were first put on sale weeks ago. First-day pre-sales for Beyoncé's latest music-related film since Black Is King reached between $6 million to $7 million back in October. That early indicator hinted at the movie's widespread appeal and showed that the stage had been set—pun intended—for a triumphant debut.

To contextualize the expected opening weekend figure for the forthcoming Beyoncé’s new picture, the record for the biggest opening weekend for a film in early December still belongs to Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai. That movie launched with $24.2 million in 2003, and nothing has been able to beat it since.

If Beyoncé had opened her latest full-length feature this past weekend, it would have ranked as the second-highest-grossing movie in America. The singer’s concert film would have come in behind The Marvels, which arrived with $46 million—a disappointing low for a Marvel picture. In second comes Five Nights at Freddy's at $9 million.

James Fauntleroy Talks Working With Beyoncé

Klaudia//November 18, 2023
In a wide-ranging conversation with Billboard, James Fauntleroy discusses working with Beyoncé:

Now, I would be remiss if I didn’t ask this since you do sing “Sleigh like Beyoncé” in the song, so have you worked with Queen Bey recently?

The last thing we did was that song with Nas and Jay-Z . I sang the hook. That was the first song I ever put out that I didn’t write, actually. They sent that to me done already and just asked me to put my voice on it and Beyoncé at the end which sounds epic.

As I was saying earlier about service, it’s really to make whoever is playing Beyoncé, the listener who is Beyoncé in that moment, have the opportunity to feel that. I’m always gon f–k with Beyoncé on whatever s–t she’s doing, but the idea came into my mind because of what she represents.

Since that Nas song, I’ve worked on some s–t for her, I’ll say. But nobody knows what’s coming out except for her, so I really have no idea.

André 3000 had to ask Beyoncé's permission to use her name in new song title

Klaudia//November 18, 2023
André 3000 has revealed he had to ask Beyoncé’s permission to use her name on a song title.

The Outkast rapper recently unveiled his first solo album in 17 years, which consists of an 87-minute long album of experimental flute music. ‘New Blue Sun’ dropped on November 17.

André 3000 revealed he had to go to some lengths for one of his titles: ‘Ninety Three ‘Til Infinity And Beyoncé’. In an interview with NPR, the rapper revealed he had to ask the legendary singer for her permission to use her name.

“So No. 5 is called ‘Ninety Three ‘Til Infinity And Beyoncé.’ That was more when I was a youngster – Souls of Mischief was one of my favorite groups and ’93 ’til Infinity,’ everybody remembers that song,” he began.

Beyoncé in Talks for Next Residency at Las Vegas' MSG Sphere: Report

Klaudia//November 18, 2023
Beyoncé may be the next artist to stage a residency at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas.

According to the New York Post, Beyoncé is in talks with the executive chairman of MSG Networks, James Dolan, about producing a $10-million-dollar stage show for the venue in 2024. The pop star is said to have already toured the venue with her manager and mom, Tina Knowles, and her husband, Jay-Z.

Beyoncé’s residency at the new venue would come after U2’s ongoing “U2:UV Achtung Baby” residency, which recently welcomed Lady Gaga for a guest performance, and was extended into February 2024.

While Beyoncé isn’t the only name in the running for a residency at the Sphere — Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, and Lady Gaga have all “been considered” as well — an artist of her stature would certainly give a good boost to the venue, which cost $2.3 billion to build and reported a $98.4 million loss in the latest financial quarter. Tickets for her “Renaissance World Tour” this past summer were in such high demand, even “obstructed view” seats sold for hundreds of dollars.

Tina Knowles Clarifies Comments About Daughter Beyoncé's Temperament

Klaudia//November 4, 2023
Tina Knowles is clarifying comments she made about daughter Beyoncé following a recent appearance on Sherri.

During the Halloween episode of the daytime talk show, Mama Knowles shared some stories from Bey's sold-out Renaissance tour. While the tour seemingly went off without a hitch during its nearly five-month run, things got a little hectic backstage, Tina revealed, especially where quick changes were concerned.

Tina said that Bey, who changed into a myriad of glittering and glamours fits throughout the show, was "mean" to her and those backstage with her during those tense outfit changes, where time was of the essence.

"I was saying, 'Girl, you get really mean back there,' and I am really happy that I don't have to be back there anymore,'" Tina told host Sherri Shepherd Monday.

"We'd laugh because she used to do 'Flaws and All.' She would say, 'I'm a (b---h) in the morning,' and I'll be like, 'and the evening too!'" she said.

Although it would sometimes get crazy backstage, Tina said that Beyoncé would always apologize for things she said in the heat of the moment.

Beyoncé Scores Three-Peat Atop Billboard's Monthly Boxscore Recap

Klaudia//November 4, 2023
Yet again, Beyoncé crowns Billboard’s monthly Boxscore recap. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the Renaissance World Tour grossed $121.9 million and sold 476,000 tickets across nine shows in September.

This is the third consecutive month, and fourth overall, that Beyoncé has crowned Top Tours. That ties her with Bad Bunny for the second-most since the charts’ launch in February 2019, only behind Elton John’s seven. And while he, Bad Bunny, The Rolling Stones and others have achieved back-to-back wins, Queen Bey is the first act to go three-in-a-row.

It’s also her third consecutive month north of $100 million, after setting all-time monthly record with $179.3 million in August.

In addition to this monthly chart feat, Billboard previously reported upon Beyoncé’s Oct. 1 finale that The Renaissance World Tour is the highest-grossing tour by a woman, by a Black artist and by any American soloist in the Boxscore archives. Between its May 10 kickoff in Stockholm and its recent closing show in Kansas City, the tour grossed $579.8 million and sold 2.8 million tickets, making it the biggest of her career, and the seventh highest grossing trek of all time.

September is Beyoncé’s second month at No. 1 on Top Boxscores. After reigning in July with two shows at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, she claims the crown with three shows on the opposite coast. Playing SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (Los Angeles area) on Sept. 1-2 and 4, the Renaissance World Tour brought in $45.5 million and sold 156,000 tickets.

More, Beyoncé follows herself at No. 2 with two hometown shows at Houston’s NRG Stadium. Those, on Sept. 23-24, grossed $31.3 million and sold 123,000 tickets. Though more than 30% off from her SoFi shows, the weekend in Houston earned more than double its next closest competition.

Beyoncé is holding two premieres for her highly anticipated concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé: The world premiere will take place in London on Nov. 30 and the U.S. premiere will be held in Los Angeles on Nov. 25.

The events will take place days before Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and AMC Entertainment debut the film in theaters on Dec. 1. Tickets for international territories — including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America and the Caribbean — will go on sale Nov. 9 at BeyonceFilm.com.

Beyoncé released the trailer for the concert doc about her Renaissance World Tour, the singer’s highest-grossing tour to date, at her final show in Kansas City earlier this month, and tickets are currently available in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé follows the superstar singer embarking on the monumental tour in support of Renaissance, the album that helped her become the most decorated artist in the history of the Grammy Awards.
