Boots Posts Snippet of Unreleased Beyoncé Track

Klaudia//August 21, 2016
Blame Instagram, if you must. On August 9, Boots, the producer behind Beyoncé‘s 2013 self-titled album, was recording an Instagram video while riding a car around New York City. Playing in the background is an unreleased Beyoncé song, as heard in a four-second snippet. Apparently Boots did this by accident.

“that moment when u didn’t realize Instagram records audio from your phone even though the camera app doesn’t,” he says on Twitter. “accidents in the 21st century.”

Of course Boots didn’t say when this Beyoncé track was recorded, or to which project it belongs, or even whether he is responsible. But he does only have one production credit in Lemonade, for “6 Inch” featuring The Weeknd. Given how close he and Beyoncé are now, it seems possible that he worked on much more than that.

“That’s one of the most rewarding friendships and work relationships of my life,” Boots said of Beyoncé in a Facebook Q&A. Hear the snippet of the unreleased track below.

"Hold Up" Impacting Rhythmic Radio

Klaudia//August 4, 2016
With Beyonce’s “Sorry” fading at rhythmic radio, Columbia Records is beginning to shift focus to the follow-up single.

“Hold Up,” said follow-up, was recently made available to rhythmic radio programmers. It will officially impact in conjunction with the August 16 add board.

Radio has already shown some interest in the song. In the days following the release of “Lemonade” — prior to Columbia’s confirmation that “Sorry” would be the official radio single — “Hold Up” registered as one of the album’s most played tracks.

“Sorry,” which is still gaining in airplay (though not necessarily moving to a higher position) at the urban format, peaked at #6 on the Mediabase rhythmic chart.

Down 23.2% in airplay versus the same time last week, it is #8 on the building chart for the current tracking period.

'Formation' Wins Grand Prix at Cannes Lions Awards

Klaudia//June 25, 2016
Beyonce can now add the Cannes Lions’ most prestigious honor to her awards shelf: her music video for “Formation,” surprise-released in February, took home one of two Grand Prix Lion Awards at the inaugural Cannes Lions Entertainment for Music, awarded Friday night (June 24.)

“Formation” was the top winner in the highly competitive Excellence In Music Video category, which shortlisted 13 music videos on Thursday and awarded eight with prizes on Friday. Other honorees included Silver Lion winners “Voodoo In My Blood,” by Massive Attack feat. Young Fathers; “Luminous Freedom” by New Build and “Blackstar” by David Bowie; as well as Bronze Lion winners “Hello” by Adele; “Runnin” by Naughty Boy featuring Beyonce & Arrow Benjamin and “Wide Open” by the Chemical Brothers featuring Beck.

Beyonce isn’t the only member of the Carter family with a Cannes Lions Grand Prix under their belt: in 2011, Jay Z took home two -- from the Integrated and Outdoor Lions -- for Droga5 and Bing’s “Decoded” campaign, which hid all 320 pages of Jay Z’s autobiography in 13 cities across the globe.

Though “Formation” doesn’t represent the typical Grand Prix-winning campaign in that no corporate brand was attached, Grey Group’s evp-director of music Josh Rabinowitz, jury president of Lions Entertainment for Music, argued that the video’s re-positioning of Beyonce’s personal brand was just as powerful. “ the biggest artist on the planet taking serious risks,” Rabinowitz said in a press conference earlier in the day, announcing the winners. “This is a mainstream pop artist pushing the limits on the way we perceive things of race in culture, and the perception of women in culture.”

5 Years Of "4": Creatives Reflect On Their Time With Beyonce

Klaudia//June 25, 2016
Beyonce’s 4, her straightforwardly-titled fourth studio album, was unleashed for the world to hear on June 24, 2011. As her first solo album independent from her former manager and father Matthew, Beyonce experimented with more intimate themes and eclectic sound stylings, setting the album apart from her first three LP’s. 4 seemingly serves as the catalyst for her musical journey of deeper, more personal themes displayed in her self-titled fifth album and her recent sixth opus, Lemonade.

However, we know a ship needs a strong crew behind it to keep it afloat. Beyonce meticulously chooses to work with a select team of creatives who she believes will give her work that certain je ne sais quoi, and develops professional relationships with those who focus on the art as a whole. We thought it would be interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the album from some of the people who were immersed in its development. Read on to see what it was like to work with Bey both in the booth and in the dance studio from colleagues who aided in the sonic and visual success of this project.

Symbolyc One (S1) was a co-producer on “Best Thing I Never Had.” A Very GOOD Beats signee, S1 has produced for Kanye West (“Power”), Eminem (“Bad Guy” from the Marshall Mathers LP 2”) and The Throne (“Murder To Excellence”).

VIBE: Before you worked on 4, have you ever worked with Beyonce before? And if not, how did she initially get a hold of you?
S1:
So, this was actually my first time working with Beyonce, on the 4 album. The way I began a working relationship with her was that I worked with Kanye on the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album, and I had the honor of going to London and Australia to work with him and Jay Z on Watch The Throne. So, while we working on the Watch The Throne album, Beyonce was out there of course, so that’s when I really started to build a relationship with her. On our second trip—we went to London first—so on our second trip to Australia, we really started to build a working relationship. We were in this mansion together that they built that had these three studios, and they built a studio for Beyonce on the third floor. She invited me up to her floor to listen to some songs that she was working on for 4, so I went up, listened to some songs and gave my critique on some of them.

Mathew Knowles shares photo with Beyonce & Blue Ivy

Klaudia//May 26, 2016
After a recent Beyonce' concert in her native city of Houston, her dad Mathew Knowles was photographed in a fun-loving group hug with her and Blue Ivy. It is one of many such moments, where the two have enjoyed time spent since his granddaughter's arrival. With Father's Day fast approaching, Knowles is asked to reflect on such moments with his daughter and granddaughter, and how he sees his role as a famous dad.

"That pictures shows three generations of my bloodline captured together. I have a lot of these and while it is easy to look at your kin and feel pride, what's even stronger than that feeling is love. Nowadays change is both fast and constant and divisiveness is taking center stage everywhere. I ask myself what stays and what heals? What forgives and brings us all together when everything else falls apart? It's love. As far as being a famous father, it doesn't matter if fame lasts 15 minutes or 50 years... families are forever and blood is thicker than everything," Knowles remarked.

Beyonce's mother sounds off on "Lemonade"

Klaudia//May 8, 2016
When Beyonce dropped her latest visual album "Lemonade" two weeks ago, the internet nearly blew up as critics and fans alike tried to decode lyrics and connect dots of rumored infidelity. ABC13 got an exclusive interview with the singer's mother to find out what she thinks of her daughter's latest release.

"People make it all about the cheating and betrayal and, yes, that's a part of it because that is something you have to heal from," Tina Knowles-Lawson said of Beyonce's creation. "If you really listen to the poetry it is one of hope and redemption and hopefully that can be healing for people."

Though the visual album is made up of vignettes covering the hurt, betrayal and depression caused by Jay Z's alleged infidelity, Knowles-Lawson said "Lemonade" comes from a good place in Beyonce's heart and is intended to help others through the pain of relationships soured.

"It could be about anyone's marriage," said Knowles Lawson. "I think that everybody at one time or another has been betrayed and lied to and it's about the pain--and it's about the healing process--and it's about how do you get past that and move on."

Knowles-Lawson is no stranger to the pain of infidelity either. Her marriage to Mathew Knowles, Beyonce's father, ended in 2011 after their relationship deteriorated years earlier. She says it was her children who helped to build her up again after the divorce.
