Beyonce Wins Caregiver Hero Award for Sharing Her Spotlight

Klaudia//September 20, 2009
Caregivers step out of the metaphorical spotlight so their loved ones' wants and needs can take center stage. This is no metaphor for Beyonce. Her gracious act of literally sharing her spotlight with Taylor Swift is recognized with the Caregiver Club Hero Award. For those of you caregivers who are so busy you didn't get any contact with the outside world this week, here's the story. Taylor Swift was on the stage accepting an MTV Video Music Award when her speech was interrupted by Kanye West—who voiced his opinion that the award should have gone to Beyonce. Later in the show, Beyonce went to the stage to accept her own award for Video of the Year. The 28-year-old said, "Thank you. I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV Award with Destiny's Child and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So I'd like Taylor to come out and have her moment" Beyonce and Taylor shared several warm embraces. In the following days, the news was filled with Kanye and Taylor. Kanye offered Taylor an apology, which Taylor accepted. As with so many acts of caregiving, Beyonce's role in this drama didn't make it to most conversations about the episode. Beyonce's generosity did not go unnoticed in caregiving circles. She offers a shining example about what caregivers know to be true: when caregivers step out of the limelight, they can shine even more brightly.

Beyonce nominated for three MOBOs

Klaudia//August 27, 2009
The ’Beautiful Nightmare’ singer is up for Best Video for ’Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’, Best International Act and Best Album for ’I Am... Sasha Fierce’ at the annual British awards ceremony, which recognises music of black origin. She will compete against her husband Jay-Z in the Best International Act category as well as Akon, Ciara, Drake, Eminem, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Keri Hilson. However, Beyonce did not receive the most nominations at yesterday’s launch which took place at London’s Mayfair Hotel. The 14th annual MOBO Awards will take place at the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) Arena in Glasgow on September 30 - the first time the ceremony has been held outside of London. Kanya King - CEO and Founder of the MOBOs - said: "The fact that we are holding the awards in Glasgow this year is testament to the fact that MOBO music is the sound of Britain as a whole. The reception from Scotland has been great and we cannot wait to put on our show up there." Fans can vote for the winners at www.mobo.com.

Beyonce Named Billboard's Woman Of The Year

Klaudia//August 26, 2009
Billboard announced today (Aug. 25) that Beyoncé will be accepting its Woman Of The Year Award at the 2009 Billboard Women In Music Event, taking place on Oct. 2 in New York City. The honor, given to a female recording artist that has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas, will be awarded to the singer for her accomplishments over the past 12 months. In the last year, Beyoncé kicked off her world tour "I Am..." in support of her third solo album "I Am...Sasha Fierce," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in November and features the hit singles "If I Were A Boy," "Single Ladies," "Halo," "Ego" and "Sweet Dreams." The tour also showcased Beyoncé's philanthropic side as she gave 2,500 tickets to families affected by the auto industry crisis in Detroit and joined forces with General Mills Hamburger Helper and Feeding America to deliver 3.5 million meals to local food banks. "Beyoncé is multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman Of The Year Award was created to honor," said Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, about Beyoncé, who is the only performer in the 51-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to top the chart for 10 weeks or more with a group and as a solo artist. "She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes." The Billboard Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business and is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.
