Beyonce backs Janet Devlin to win UK X Factor

Klaudia//October 19, 2011
Pop superstar Beyonce has backed Janet Devlin to win the UK X Factor. The 30-year-old thinks Janet, who is one of the acts in her former Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland's category, is one to watch in this year's competition. The Best Thing I Never Had singer said: 'For sure I think Kelly will win, not just because she is my sister but because I really do think that she has the strongest acts. 'The girl group Rhythmix are very current and the guys all have good voices, but I see the winner coming from Kelly's group.' She added: 'It's the public voting for it, and you can't second guess who the public might like. These shows are as much about personality and winning over the public as they are performance and vocals. 'Janet is very sweet, I can see the public becoming very endeared towards her and picking up the phone.' As well as being a fan of Devlin, the pregnant star is also predicting big things from Misha B. She added in an interview with British New! magazine: 'There is something very endearing about Janet, but there is something very special about Misha and from what I have heard from Kelly she is just going to get better and better.'

Mike Bivins Responds To Beyonce's Ode To New Edition

Klaudia//October 14, 2011
New Edition & BBD founder Michael Bivins is still in the industry mix. On the heels of the male group working on a reunion tour, Mr. Bivins dished exclusively to TheYBF.com on how he feels about younger artists (most recently Beyonce) paying homage to vets like N.E. who opened doors for the huge boy bands after them. Check out what he had to say about Bey's new "Love on Top" nod to the fellas, plus inside details on his mission to help the homeless of New York City.... In the sneak peek of Beyonce' Knowles' "Love on Top" video, she's clearly serving up her own rendition of one of the most popular R&B boy bands, after saying she wants to start her own some day. But was New Edition founder Michael Bivins, who helped pave the way for NKOTB, N'Sync, BSB, & Boyz II Men, feelin' it? Yup! He tells TheYBF.com: "When I saw Beyonce on the MTV awards in the sequined jacket this year and with the dancers in R & B group positions, I knew then she was showing love to NE! The video teaser was part two...the classic video "If It Isn't Love" reference." And the advice he has for Bey about the type of father Jay will be: "Jay-Z is a trailblazer of no fear and is totally a blueprint for all kids with dreams from the hood. As a parent-to-be, he has the answers. It started with marrying his wife. Their child will be born into professional hustle!"

Beyonce Slams Fake Baby Bump Rumors

Klaudia//October 12, 2011
Beyonce slammed recent claims that her baby bump is fake, calling the rumors ridiculous and false. The 30-year-old singer was forced to refute the rumors following her appearance on Australia's "Sunday Night" TV show and increasing speculation over her changing form. Footage of the "Sunday Night" interview went viral on YouTube after the cameras seemed to show her bump being squashed and moving as the star sat down. US gossip websites said she was wearing a prosthetic bump, and conspiracy theorists speculated that she was faking the pregnancy while a surrogate carries the baby. But the theory seemed thin after the "Single Ladies" singer, who said she is due to give birth in February, was snapped showing an obvious belly while wearing a bikini on vacation in Croatia. A spokesperson for the singer told America's ABC News that the prosthetic theory was "stupid, ridiculous and false." Beyonce has never kept it a secret that she planned to have children with her husband, Jay-Z. When quizzed by CNN's Piers Morgan in an interview in June about her baby plans she replied, "I always said I'd have a baby at 30. And I'm 29." But when he asked her if a baby was on the way, she replied, "Only God knows."

Beyonce's 'Countdown' Dancing 'Surprised' Original Choreographer

Klaudia//October 12, 2011
Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker is not flattered — nor angry — about claims that Beyoncé's "Countdown" video pays unattributed homage to one of her clips. "Like so many people, I was extremely surprised when I got a message through Facebook about the special appearance of my two choreographies — 'Rosas danst Rosas' (1983) and 'Achterland' (1990) — in Beyoncé's new videoclip 'Countdown,' " De Keersmaeker wrote in a statement on the Performance Club website on Monday. Not long after the clip for B's latest debuted, a number of websites pointed out the similarities between De Keersmaeker's work and the steps in Beyoncé's video. Before those side-by-side comparisons started popping up, the video's director, Adria Petty, told MTV News it was an homage to such icons as Audrey Hepburn and the Supremes, as well as classic films such as "West Side Story" and "Funny Face." In it, Beyoncé not only shows her signature personality and spirit but also her emerging baby bump, and Petty said she presented the singer with a number of classic references, including some German modern-dance clips. "Obviously," De Keersmaeker continued, "Beyoncé, or the video clip director Adria Petty, plundered many bits of the integral scenes in the film ... People asked me if I'm angry or honored. Neither. n the one hand, I am glad that 'Rosas danst Rosas' can perhaps reach a mass audience, which such a dance performance could never achieve, despite its popularity in the dance world since 1980s. And Beyoncé is not the worst copycat, she sings and dances very well, and she has a good taste! On the other hand, there are protocols and consequences to such actions, and I can't imagine she and her team are not aware of it." Among the scenes juxtaposed in a popular online mash-up is one in which B is filmed through a window as her similarly dressed dancers cavort in the background, tugging on her shirt and hair in a fashion that is nearly identical to De Keersmaeker, who also sports a similar chopped-bangs look.

Video Deconstruction: Director Adria Petty on Beyoncé's "Countdown"

Klaudia//October 11, 2011
Beyoncé. The name carries weight. She's not just a world-renowned artist, a famous wife, and soon-to-be MILF; she's a brand. And her creative crew, Team Beyoncé, is made up of busy foot soldiers that go to war daily to maintain her carefully crafted image. During a recent, expectedly busy week, director Adria Petty joined this frenzied infantry to serve as co-director on Beyoncé's new music video for "Countdown," or as Petty describes it, a "very personal and sexy love song," from the singer's new LP, 4. Ms. Knowles was also shooting other music videos that week so time was limited. But Petty (whose father is the musician Tom Petty) worked with Beyoncé once before on the "Sweet Dreams" video, so she knew the deal. This go-round though, something special popped off. Petty, no stranger to celebrity, saw the 30-year-old entering a "coming-of-age" moment. For the director, a classic film enthusiast, there was no better way to depict Knowles's transitional moment than by paying homage to those that shaped her. So "Countdown" became a prissy pop culture menagerie: in just over four minutes, Beyoncé is Audrey Hepburn and Alex Owens, Diana Ross and Danyale Luna. We let Petty hash out the rest of the details during a chat that touched on Beyoncé's pregnancy, the video's iconography, and why it was not an act of plagiarism.

GQ: Working with Beyoncé, who is always evolving, must be a beautiful challenge.
Adria Petty: I think whenever you work with Beyoncé it's a collaboration. She has a lot of input. And then you have the time constraints that come with working with her that push you into different directions

GQ: There are countless homages to pop culture of the past in this video.
Adria Petty: I think we were playing with Mod, and '60's and '80's iconic stuff that responded to and related to.
